WOW!
Another stellar night of competition last evening. I dare say this has been the most exciting year of battles yet. We set some new records last night, including the earliest “sell out” yet. While there is no cover at the Jackalope Lounj, we were at capacity by 9:25 last night. With battles beginning at 10:00pm you can imagine how many folks didn’t get in.
Professor Problems [448]vs. Cash Beatz [215]
We began the night with a stellar performance from Professor Problem. DJ and member of the Trauma House crew, his mix of dark and heavy beats with old school DJ battle techniques, made for a hard to beat performance. To his credit, Cash did have some technical issues, but that’s all part of the competition. Professor Problem will be at the semi-finals, September 7th
Lex Luther [424] vs. Frequenc [399]
This battle was exciting and had a few surprises too. 2012 MTBD Champ Lex Luther was favored by the crowd during the introductions, but by the end of three rounds, the judges were at a tie. After we added up the scores it was 3 for Lex and 3 for FreequenC. So we had to go to a “beat off” round, but the producers were already dismissed from the stage and we had set the stage for the next battle. So AFTER the 3 bout, we had these two back on stage for a 4 th beat. Lex went home the winner, but not without a challenge. Congrats to both of these fellas for bringing the HOT FIRE!
D-ski The Illeagle [454] vs. Jungle Boy[425]
Talk about diversity of sounds, this competition was two completely different style producers, who both brought their A game. Jungle boy, had been in the 2011 MTBD, and brought some exciting beats to this round. New comer, D-ski, had the crowd’s heads bobbin to that ol’ boom bap. Another close battle, sees D-Ski The Illeagle heading to the semi-finals.
Jooney Dubz[491] vs. Sam Winters[502]
THE BEST BATTLE we’ve had all year! Don’t get me wrong Bubba vs. Jazzward was exciting, but this was a clean and HIGH energy, high scoring beat battle! Jooney, came into the battle, fresh off a victory earlier that week. He is the 2012 Drankathon Beat Battle champion, and was ready for more heads to roll. MTBD veteran Sam Winters had a few tricks up his sleeve as well. Jooney came with Hard hitting battle beats, while Sam’s approach was more performance based, as he rocked the OP-1 portable synth…
This battle was VERY VERY VERY close. We went into extra rounds, and even had a judge who couldn’t decide…
@miltownbeatdown The last battle was ridiculously hard to judge. IMO, both deserved to move on. Great job to all the competitors tonight.
In the end, by a narrow margin, Sam Winters advanced to the semi-finals. CONGRATS to both of these Milwaukee producers. AMAZING battle!
Next round will take place THURSDAY AUGUST 30th
